Dr Te Taka Keegan has bestowed a great honour on Mathematics for a Lifetime by officially endorsing our work.
Dr Te Taka Keegan of Waikato-Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Whakaaue descent, is the recipient of the Prime Minister's Supreme Award 2017 and a Sustained Excellence in Tertiary Teaching award -
Kaupapa Māori category.
A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato, The University of Waikato, he has been described as a modern day tohunga (expert) in teaching, research,
innovation and computer science. His philosophy is grounded in his tribal ancestral knowledge; "Kia hiki te wairua, kia hihiko te kaupapa, kia hora te aroha" - "Lift the spirits, incite the passion, and share the love."
Speaking about Mathematics for a Lifetime, Dr Te Taka Keegan said: "I fully endorse Mathematics for a Lifetime Trust as an innovative opportunity to benefit our youth, offering them more choice in their careers, more fulfilling lives and brighter futures. The potential has far reaching effects as improved mathematical knowledge underpins so many aspects of life, including home life, social life and, of course, working lives. Ultimately it is change for the better for our taitamariki and mokopuna."
